CZE vs LAT

Yesterday I had the privilege to attend my very first ice hockey game ever. AND lucky me, it was an Olympic event! WOO! Mike's uncle gave us two tickets to see the Latvija vs Czech game which was last night at 7pm. It was awesome. Czech scored the first two goals, then I think it was the 2nd period when Latvija realized, "Oh, yeah, we are playing hockey!" and they finally stopped being SO defensive and actually starting trying to make some goals. They managed to tie up the game by 3rd period and had to go into a 10min overtime. The entire arena (aside from the Czech fans) were chanting LAT V A. It was wild. They didn't get a goal, the Czech team did and then it was all over. Czech 3-2 Lat. Ah well, it was still good, but I really wanted Latvija to win.

I also ate my very first hotdog in Canada yesterday at the game. It was no Dietz & Watson, but it was still good. We also went and saw the Olympic cauldron. The weather was total shit and I don't have a raincoat, so my clothes got soaked through and I became the most miserable person... it was highly unpleasant for me. Now we know what my next purchase is going to be: a raincoat! I AM living in BC after all. A fleece coat isn't going to cut it.

Other than that, I'm pretty sure I'm having some sort of breakdown. :D

Winter olympics and zombies

Oh man, the Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010. I'll be honest, I'm really not all over it or anything and I'm annoyed with the extra people on transit (esp when I am downtown), and oh gosh, downtown is just crazy. But whatever, it's only for a short period of time.

Last night Mike and I went to our friend Rob's house (partyyy) for the opening ceremony. We also thought that they'd have a parade going by his street, but they didn't! It rained anyway and it was super windy. yuck. But anyway, Rob doesn't have cable, so we had to watch CTV's broadcast via their live internet feed. It was really jumpy and laggy and shit quality, but it was better than NOT watching it. The light effects and the show was really really awesome. My favourite part was the orcas on the floor and then they turned into the salmon, ooh. BC Salmon and orca whales, like, what else is BC known for?? Um... flannel? Over all, it was fab. Also, I can't help but feel that the natives were exploited at the beginning. I liked it, but it was kind of weird to me... at least some of the narrative, i guess? I don't know! I don't know Canada's cruel history with their native people, as I am not Canadian and didn't learn it.

Almost wish I had applied to volunteer for the games, but at the same time I'm glad that I didn't. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to spend the night with my hubby and friends and make amends with Jen!

The most boring part was the speeches given by the old men. sssnnnoooooooooooooooorrrreeeee...zzZzzzz And then there was a hydrolic issue with the giant ice penis sculpture lifting up. And then the ctv player timed out and none of us got to see the lighting of the torch. Fuck. Then they had 2 seconds of red and white fireworks outside the window (we were in a highrise next to scienceworld 8) )and we were like 'WHAT!?' everyone missed the good stuff.

Today I'm making heart shaped sugar cookies for tomorrow. We're going to have salmon for dinner. I mean, we've had salmon for dinner before, but usually it's ME making it myself, so we're going to make it together. We'll probably spend the day in PJs anyway.

Yeah, that's all. I have an ironing board now, but I've lost interest in the quilt. Plus, I'm like, broke. I think I'd rather be painting right now, just.. no paints. UGH. I should have my parents mail me my tool box of paints from NJ.

There was also a zombie walk yesterday. I was unable to participate :(
